Undergraduate Preparation
Students entering the graduate programs in biochemistry are expected to have completed basic courses in chemistry [general, quantitative, organic (2 semesters), physical], biology (general, biochemistry, genetics), physics (2 semesters), and mathematics (calculus). To evaluate undergraduate preparation in physical chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry, diagnostic exams will be administered during the week preceding the first semester of enrollment in the graduate program. Students will have to demonstrate competency in (basic) organic chemistry, biochemistry and physical biochemistry.
UNH students wishing to be admitted to the 5-year B.S.-M.S. program must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 upon entering their senior year. For students accepted into this program, obtaining a grade of B or better in CHEM 651 will exempt them from taking the organic chemistry exam; a grade of B or better in BCHM 750 will exempt them from taking the physical chemistry exam; and an average grade of B or better in BCHM 751 and BCHM 752 will exempt them from taking the biochemistry exam.
